The 51-year-old Portuguese, who has already coached Burkina Faso and Gabon, will coach the team during the 2020/21 season, said the source, which did not comment on the duration of the contract.

In addition to Girabola, 1º de Agosto will compete this season for the Angola Cup and the League of African Champion Clubs.

Paulo Duarte has also coached the French Le Mans and the Tunisians CS Sfaxien.
1º de Agosto won the last four championships, three of them with Dragan Jovic. The other was with Zoran Maki.

Despite not having a start date yet, the championship “Girabola” 2020/202’s draw was conducted on Wednesday, with 1º de Agosto playing Interclube on the first round.

The previous edition of the national championship (2019/20) was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

When there were yet five rounds left, Petro de Luanda were leading the competition with 54 points, three more than 1º de Agosto, who had one game less.
