The information was provided last Friday, by the Portuguese ambassador to Angola, Pedro Pessoa e Costa, in statements to the press, after an audience with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos.

The diplomat said it was necessary to quickly define the return strategy for businesspersons, to decrease the risk of some priority projects affected, both in Angola and Portugal.

He explained that, in a first phase, the choice should fall on businesspersons in the construction sector who are needed for priority works in Angola and must comply with all bio-safety rules, including quarantine.

According to the Portuguese diplomat, work is being done with Portuguese businesspersons to identify only the people needed to return. "It will be a small number, but very necessary".

He recalled that the pandemic is having a negative impact on the countries' economy, forcing adaptation to the situation.

Since the identification of the first case in March, Angola has accumulated 1,483 positive cases, with 64 deaths, 520 recovered and 899 active, while Portugal has 52,351 cases, 1,746 death and 38,087 recovered and 12,518 active.
