Available data indicates that of the 4,475 positive cases registered in the country, 8.6% are health workers infected with Covid-19.

Seven health workers have so far died of Covid-19 pandemic.

In a message on the occasion of the National Health Workers' Day, MINSA highlights the vital role they play in ensuring a functioning health system and thus saving lives, while recognising the constraints and challenges they face in an environment of high daily risk and virus exposure.

"Despite this, it is remarkable how proudly and with commitment they dedicate themselves to relieving the suffering of patients and maintaining the well-being of the entire population, in a manifestation of love of neighbour and patriotism, a legacy that future generations will surely become perennial," reads the message.

According to the Ministerial Department, the transmission of Covid-19 will be effectively controlled with the active, organized and sustained participation of the whole society and families, always with the aim of reducing the risk of the spread of the disease, counting for this purpose on those in the front line, namely health professionals.

To reduce the impact of the disease on health professionals and improve the provision of health care, MINSA has advised all health services on how to prevent and control infection in the National Health Network and reduce the exposure of frontline professionals to Covid-19.
